What to expect?

Learn how to establish a respectful and nurturing life-long relationship with your children. And nurture and heal yourself by re-parenting.

Parenting sets the foundation for their future relationships with others AND themselves.
Respectful & responsive parenting fosters secure attachment and life-long open communication.
This approach to parenting centers the needs of the child AND the parent.
It also recognizes that the dependency and vulnerability of the child creates unequal power dynamics which can be balanced by awareness and accountability.
Respectful parenting relies on communication and agreement to collaborate and share power.
The act of parenting will definitely bring up many questions, memories, feelings, questions, and confusions from your childhood.  So I recommend engaging with this workshop in order to re-parenting  yourself.

Re-parenting is the practice of tending to your inner child.

There maybe multiple reasons why your parents may not have met your physical and emotional needs: societal, and cultural, personal, and inter-generational trauma.

Understanding and practicing responsive, respectful parenting skills allows you to re-parent your inner child.
Being the adult you needed when you were a child will heal your untended wounds.
Knowing what your wounds, triggers, and needs are how to care for them, will allow you to be more present for your child.

Topics & skills we cover.

This workshop addresses:
Parenting Styles
Attachment Styles
Leadership & Boundaries
Parent-pleasing → People Pleasing → Child Pleasing
Adverse Childhood Experiences
Inter-generational Trauma
Requirements
Completion of Deep Listening Workshop (Part 1 of Nurturing Relationships Skills)
If you are a parent, your partner must also do this workshop so that there is consistency and coherence. Otherwise,  it will be confusing for the child(ren) to experience two different types of parenting.

Structure

These workshops require 1 month of group work and peer support provided within a study group.

WORKSHOP : 2-hr Zoom call

MENTORSHIP : 1 12-minute Listening Partnership in week 1.

STUDY GROUP :

Weekly Listening Partnerships (LP) with Peer.  12 minutes of listening and sharing practice with a partner for weeks 2-4.

Weekly reflections. Each week will have a theme-related prompt, and you will have an opportunity to share your weekly reflections. I will offer feedback and guidance on your reflections so that we can learn from each other. This group work is hosted on the Mighty Network Platform.

Peer Support. Your peers also provide support via Listening Partnerships and encouragement either on MN or privately.  All members have the responsibility to respond to other’s sharing.  This is how we build circles of support.

WRAP UP CALL : 1 hour Zoom call to see each other face to face and reflect on the journey of nurturing relationships.

Feedback

What was helpful overall?
•
The visualisation meditation we did during the workshop was incredibly powerful for me. I find myself going back to them and using them as a form of self care and self love.
• The listening partnerships and circles – it is so so so healing to be wholeheartedly listened to without any fear of judgement or reprimanding. Feeling this way in a group has been such an important experience for me, thank you all for listening and seeing me
• Maharani, your prompts for us to reflect on certain things and share with the group for feedback. This practice helped me gain lots of insight.

How has this been useful?
After our session on Saturday, after us talking, I felt u guys helped me recognise the progress I actually am doing in listening to myself.
So, out of more self care, I reached out to my mum for help. I’d been feeling overwhelmed with never being able to finish house chores and dishes keep piling up … I have time to wash a bit n then never finish… anyway mum sent over a 3 dav feast. I won’t have to cook for davs now.
And then in the same phone call. She wanted to complain about my sisters. How they r never nice to her. Usually I tell her no, they try, I’m sure they do… stuff like that. But today I just held space for her, to complain n be heard. n then I let her see her grandson on video to cheer her up. I feel good being in control of these powers of listening
