What to expect?

Learn how to work with your natural daily rhythm to optimize sleep.

Your body is simply amazing! It effortlessly integrates external and internal signals to keep you living, breathing, walking, talking, working, singing, dancing. However, your natural rhythms, especially, the sleep cycle is at odds with the fast-pace of modern society.

As a neuroscientist and a mind-body practitioner, I am deeply aware of the importance of sleep for physical, emotional, and psychological well-being, regeneration and development.

There are so many layers and interactions that influence sleep – from societal and cultural norms, environmental cues, our biological needs, psychological habits, physiological responses and emotional reactions.

This workshop is designed to help you figure out how to adjust and tweak these multiple strands to conduct your own more harmonious symphony of living and sleeping.

Topics we cover

In this workshop, you will learn about the biology, ecology, and psychology of sleep.
Understand, identify, and discern various bodily sensations and emotions
Explore the daily rhythms of key hormones that regulate wake, hunger, tiredness, and sleep and give rise to the sensations that you experience.
Learn about the phases of the ‘ultradian’ rhythm of the sleep cycle.
Integrate this information so that you better understand how to work with your unique sleep cycle, needs, and obligations of work, play, fajr prayers, etc. so that you are deeply rested.
Becoming aware of the impact of individual and inter-generational trauma and approaches for healing.

Structure

These workshops require 1 month of group work and peer support provided within a study group.

WORKSHOP : 2-hr Zoom call

STUDY GROUP :

Weekly reflections. For the first 2 weeks, you will be charting your daily cycle of sleep-wake-eat-work-exercise-relax.  From this information, we can discuss how to adapt your routine to optimize your sleep. Weekly check-ins will continue for further support and guidance. This group work is hosted on the Mighty Network Platform.
Peer Support. Your peers also provide support and  encouragement either on MN or privately.  All members have the responsibility to respond to other’s sharing.  This is how we build circles of support.

WRAP UP CALL : 1 hour Zoom call to see each other face to face and reflect on the journey of nurturing relationships.

Feedback

This session has made me more aware of sleep patterns.  I needed to understand the science behind it to be able to do somethinig about it.

I am glad I attended and will try to apply as much as possible to my daily life and family.

I will come back again. Thank you for a lovely relaxing session.
